textile tradition

Ethiopia has an ancient tradition of spinning and weaving. Sabahar works to preserve these skills. We have hired more than 50 men and women who spin the silk, dye the thread in natural dyes and weave the cotton and silk into the final products.

Sabahar is committeed to creating sustainable employment for the women and men involved in textile production and marketing. We are trying to create a working environment that is empowering, respectful and cooperative  As much as possible, we will improve the skills and capacity of our staff to increase their potential for income generation and pride in their work. Sabahar is also committed to promoting the silk sector in Ethiopia, as it holds great potential to help rural households diversify their income and to be a viable agriculture sector in the future. All of our products are made by hand: from spinning cotton and silk, to weaving, dying, and finishing.
