about us

From the caterpillar to the scarf;  Sabahar is a unique Fair Trade company  that produces hand woven textiles to wear- such as scarves, shawls, wraps, and ponchos as well as fine textiles for your home such as cushions, throws, blankets, curtains, tablecloths and placemats.

We raise silk worms, spin the silk, design the products, dye it and then weave it. Buying a Sabahar product means you support a truly Ethiopian product, cared for by skilled artisans at each stage of the process.

We combine locally produced eri silk with mulberry silk from Uganda and Ethiopian cotton to produce a range of products.  All of our products are individually made by skilled hands- hand spinning on drop spindles and spinning wheels, hand woven on traditional looms and naturally dyed with flowers, trees, insects and plants.

We sell both in Ethiopia and export to more than 10 countries.

We create positive work opportunities within Ethiopia with a special emphasis on employment for women. Sabahar encourages high-quality traditional skills as a means to increase reliable income for households. We promote and respect fair-trade principles.
